Eugene M. Smith, 62, Fontanelle, Iowa 62, former Westfield resident, died Dec. 9, 1992 in the Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield, Iowa.

Mr. Smith was born Sept. 14, 1930 to Martin James and Ina Stowell Smith in Ayrshire, Iowa. He graduated from the Westfield high school in Westfield in 1948. He married Mary Lou Lovell Sept. 23, 1950 in Adair, Iowa. They had lived in Fontanelle for over 20 years. He was a carpenter, enjoyed woodworking and took pride in his 1949 antique truck, and especially loved his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou of Fontanelle; his daughter, Christine Reed and husband, Ron of Greenfield, Iowa; two grandaughters, Misty Reed and friend T.J. Carlson of Des Moines, and Kimberly Reed of Greenfield, Iowa; three sisters, Lucille Boettger and husband, Charles of Carter Lake, Carol Cooper and husband Robert of Atlantic, Iowa; arid Marilyn Wagers and husband, Frank of Redfield, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 12 at St. John's Catholic church in Greenfield. The Rev. Fr. Dan Clarke officiated the mass for the Christian burial. Burial was in Adair Catholic cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents Martin and Ina Smith.
