Maria, M. Strom, 82, Rapid City, S.D. died Monday, June 1, 1992 at a Rapid City nursing home.

Graveside services were Friday, June 5 at Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Memorial services were Saturday at First Baptist church in Rapid City. Rev. Truman Sproles officiated. Funeral arrangements were made by Osheim- Carton funeral home of Rapid City. A memorial has been established for First Baptist church in Rapid City.

Mrs. Strom was born April 10, 1910, at Omro, Wis., daughter of Henry Christian and Mary Magdalena (Dilling) -Reitz. She grew up and graduated from high school at Omro in 1927. She attended Oshkosh State Teachers College at Oshkosh, Wise. She married Michael Strom May 8, 1928, in Chicago. The couple resided in Chicago until moving to Boston in 1943. Mr. Strom was preparing to become a minister and served a parish in Boston while completing his theological training. Rev. Strom's ministry took him to numerous communities, and the family resided in Oxford, Neb., Trent, S.D., Columbus, Neb., Harlan, Knoxville and Akron, Iowa and Codell, Kan. Following retirement in 1969 the family moved to Akron, Iowa. Rev. Strom died in 1973 and Mrs. Strom and daughter, Michelle, moved to Rapid City. She was active in church work, teaching Sunday school and Bible school and directed church choir's for 60 years. She also presented the gospel in art. She was a life member of the PTA in Nebraska, a member of GFWC Book and Thimble club in Akron, past president of PEO and president of the York Association of Women in Nebraska. She also served as activity director for seven years at Hillcrest Care Center at Hawarden. She taught music in the public school system at Oxford, Neb. As well as giving private voice and piano lessons over a period of 35 years. She found music, art and serving people the most rewarding parts of her life.

Survivors include three daughters, Doris Marie Strom and Cynthia Strom, both of Rapid City, and Michelle Strom of Livingston, Montana, six grandchildren, James A. Stoeckmann, Jr., Michael Stoeckmann, Elizabeth Ledbetter, Brian Raduenz, Christi Gilhoi and Jason Gilhoi; and five great-grandchildren.
