Edna M. Dunne, 94, of Kingsley, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley.
Edna Margaret Groepper was born Jan. 3, 1916, at Quimby, the daughter of Adolph and Katie (Rochau) Groepper. At an early age, Edna moved with her family to the Remsen area where she received her education in the rural school system. On March 27, 1938, she married William "Bill" P. Dunne, Sr. at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen. After their marriage, Bill and Edna farmed north of Kingsley in Henry Township for 42 years until retirement in 1980 when they moved to Kingsley.
Edna was a member of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. She loved to cook and bake. Many looked forward to her Christmas gifts of cookies, candy, and pastries.
For many years she took daily walks with her Ed's Café buddies. She enjoyed playing cards and socializing with her card club members.
Edna especially took great pleasure in spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was extremely proud of their accomplishments.
Survivors include one daughter and her husband, Phyllis and Jerry Meister of Le Mars; three sons and their wives, Jerry and Caryl Dunne of Sioux City, Ron Dunne of Westminster, Colo., and Bill Dunne Jr. and his wife Ann of Kingsley; grandchildren and great grandchildren: Randy and Judy Meister and their children Jana and Danica of Lees Summit, Mo., Cindy and Kevin Digmann and their children Matt, Zack, and Taylor of Iowa City, Kim and Jeff Jansen and their children Bailey and Gabe of Clive, Cory and Mindy Dunne and their children Camryn, Hayden, and William "Liam" of Kingsley, Nicole and Dr. Travis Brownell and their children Olivia and Anna Claire of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Jennifer and Mike Galles and their daughter Isabella of Sioux City, and Gina and Jeremy Sitzmmann and their daughters Jordyn and Brynn of Kingsley; a brother, Loren Groepper of Kingsley; a sister, Alice Shanahan of Dakota City, Neb.; and two sisters-in-law, Esther Groepper of Brookings, S.D., and Kathleen Groepper of Ames.
Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Dunne; her parents; a grandson, Scott Meister; six brothers and spouses, Ernest and Martha, Harry, Walter, Alvin and Dolores, Clarence and Thelma, and Kenneth; three sisters, Viola and Clarence Berding, Mabel Groepper, and Lillie and Donald Nestor; three brothers-in-law, Philip Dunne, Donald Dunne, and Jack and Cleone Dunne; three sisters-in-law, Verna Groepper, Mary Cook, and Dorothy Flynn.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley with the Rev. Duane Miesner officiating. Interment will be at the Kingsley Cemetery. Visitations with the family present will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, all at the church in Kingsley. Visitation will continue Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be Travis Brownell, Kevin Digmann, Cory Dunne, Mike Galles, Jeff Jansen, Randy Meister, and Jeremy Sitzmann. Honorary casket bearers will be Nicole Brownell, Cindy Digmann, Mindy Dunne, Jennifer Galles, Kim Jansen, Judy Meister, and Gina Sitzmann.
Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.
