Sandra E. "Sandi" Schulz, 70, of Le Mars, died Tuesday afternoon, June 22, 2010, at Westwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Sioux City.
Sandra Ellen Schulz was born Aug. 31, 1939, in Sioux City, the daughter of Marcia E. (Crane) and Kenneth L. Crabb, Sr. In 1958, she graduated from Central High School in Sioux City. Sandi graduated from a local beauty school following high school, and for a number of years, she owned a beauty shop in Riverside.
On Sept. 9, 1972, Sandi was united in marriage to Alvin Gilbert "Duke" Schulz. Upon moving to Le Mars, Sandi was proud to have her beauty shop in her own home.
Some of Sandi's favorite leisure activities and interests included spending time with her grandchildren, collecting knick-knacks, solving book puzzles, flower gardening, playing computer games, fishing, watching television, and creating ceramic pieces.
Many will recall that Sandi was a cashier at the Fareway Grocery Store in Le Mars for more than 20 years. For a period of time, she was a cook at the Abbey of Le Mars, and prior to her retirement, an employee at the Corner Café in Brunsville.
She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club, both in Le Mars.
Sandi is survived by her husband of 38 years, Alvin "Duke" Schulz; her children, Laura and Jeff Dimmick of Le Mars, Tracey and Scott Shinsato of West Richland, Wash., Clifford and Amy Schulz of Sioux Falls, S.D., Dawn and David Hauf of South Sioux City, Neb., and Mickey and Gary Truman of Beemer, Neb.; her two sisters, Pam Crabb of Sioux City and Dianna Buddi of Sioux City; her nine grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Preceding Sandi in death are her parents, her brother, Kenneth Crabb, Jr.; her grandson, Lane Dimmick; and her niece, Jessica Weyer.
Memorial services will be 5 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Timothy P. Geitz officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church, one hour prior to Sandi's service. The Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
