Mrs. Edward (Alvena) Nitzschke, 96, of Remsen died Thursday, May
27, 1993, at Happy Siesta Nursing Home, Remsen, after a lingering
Illness.Mrs. Nitzschke was born Oct. 3, 1896, on a farm south of Remsen
to Detlef and Catherine (Jacobsen) Erichsen. She attended country
Schools near Remsen and the high school at Remsen. She was
baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen.She married Edward Nitzchke June 17, 1914, at Cherokee. They
farmed for many years before retiring and moving into Remsen in
1937. They moved in 1943 to their current home in Remsen. She had
resided at Happy Siesta Nursing Home, Remsen for the last three
Months. Mr. Nitzschke died Oct. 24, 1966.Mrs. Nitzschke was a lifelong member of Christ Lutheran Church
at Remsen where she also was a member of the Ladies Aid and the
Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She also was a member
Of the VFW Auxiliary and was Secretary of the senior citizens group
for many years.Survivors include three sons and Their wives, August and Loretta
Nitzschke of Rock Rapids, and Donald and JoAnn Nitzchke of Remsen; a
Daughter, Mrs. Harold (Dorothy) Presuhn of Remsen, 20 grandchildren;
39 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a sister, Mrs. Frank
(Marie) Maass of Remsen.She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Erwin (Lucille)
Anderson in 1945; a son, Lyle Nitzschke, in 1978; a son-in-law, Harold Presuhn, in
1986; two brothers and three sisters.Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen, with
Rev. James Wilson and a grandson, Rev. Gerald Presuhn, officiating. Burial will be
in the Remsen City Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at
Christ Lutheran Church, Remsen. Visitation Is at the church from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday,
Moeller Funeral Home of Remsen is in charge of arrangements.Le Mars Daily Sentinel
