Peter Moss, 83, of Orange City, died Tuesday June 8, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in Le Mars.

Peter James was born Dec. 20, 1926, in rural Rock Valley, the son of Marion and Henrietta (Westra) Moss. He was raised in the Middleburg area.

On Feb. 8, 1950, he married Darlene G. Kraayenbrink in Sioux Center. They farmed at Hospers, where in 1954 and 1955, he was named a Master Swine Producer. In 1992, they retired into Hospers. Mrs. Moss died Sept. 14, 1996, in Orange City.

In 1998, Pete moved to Orange City, where he became a resident of the Pioneer Memorial Home in June 2008. On May 12 of this year, he transferred to the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Orange City. In earlier years, he had been a long-time active member of the First Reformed Church in Hospers, where he served on the consistory and was a teacher.

Mr. Moss was also a former Gideon.

He enjoyed fishing, watching baseball, and attending family reunions and his grandchildren's activities.

Survivors include his three children, Marjorie Moss of Lake Elsinore, Calif., Beverly, and her husband, Larry Heemstra, of Le Mars, and Philip Moss, and his wife, Julie, of Monument, Colo.; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; five brothers and sisters and their spouses, Agnes and Marion Wielenga of Orange City; Jim and Bernice Moss; Gene and Marla Moss; and Joanne and Herlon Vander Schaaf, all of Sioux Center; and Marilyn and Gerald Bruxvoort of Orange City.; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, the Rev. Albert and Aileen Moss; and a sister and her husband, Charlene and Rodney Vanden Brink.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Stanley Vandersall and the Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hospers Cemetery. There will be a prayer service at 9:30 a.m. Friday at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today (Thursday), with the family present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials will be directed to Hospice of Siouxland North in Le Mars.
