GEORGE MATTHIESEN AKRON AREA FARMER DEAD AT AGE OF 64
Funeral Services Set WednesdayGeorge Ernest Matthiesen, 64, lifelong Plymouth County resident and Akron farmer, died Sunday at Sacred Heart Hospital after a three-week illness.
He suffered a stroke, July 10, while mowing hay at his farm.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Plymouth Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in the LeMars City Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer’s funeral home.
Mr. Matthiesen was born Sept. 16, 1897, in Plymouth County, a son of the late Chris and Margaret Erickson Matthiesen. His marriage to Margaret Arthur took place Dec. 30, 1924, at La Porte City. He was a member of the Plymouth Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are the widow, Margaret; two sons, Gene of Sleepy Eye, Minn, and Garvin of Middletown, N.J.; three sisters, Mrs. Lena Tonsfeldt of Remsen, Mrs. Emma Mangles of Pomona, Calif., and Mrs. Lillian Lohrman of Lombard, Ill.; a brother, Henry of Rapid City, S.D.; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Evan, a Navy jet pilot who was killed in a jet crash in Texas in 1956, and a son in infancy.
