Shirley Ainsworth, 74, of Le Mars, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Community in Sioux City.

Shirley Jo Ann Schulz was born April 29, 1936, in Merrill, the daughter of Le Roy and Mildred (Peterson) Schulz. She attended school in Le Mars. Shirley and William Ainsworth were united in marriage Dec. 16, 1955 at the Free Methodist Church in Le Mars. Shirley and Bill made their home and raised their family in Le Mars.

Shirley cleaned in many homes in Le Mars as well as the Le Mars Senior Center, the Le Mars Daily Sentinel, and cleaned at Primebank (Le Mars Savings Bank) for 22 years.

Shirley enjoyed flower gardening, ceramics and was an avid walker. Most of all she enjoyed camping with her children and their families as well as her brother and sister-in-law, Le Roy and Betty Schulz. She always looked forward to spending time at the campground with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Cindy (Larry) Thompson of Bellevue, Neb., Candy Franke of Sheldon, and Pam (Jim) Nolen of Sioux City; grandchildren Jeremy (Heather) Bermel, Nick (Nicki) Bermel, Corey (Emily) Ainsworth, James, Tyler and Josh Nolen, Eric Franke, Shannon (Tyrone) Thompson, and Matt (Amber) Thompson; great-grandchildren Breanna, Justus, and Honor Bermel, Carter Ainsworth, Audric and Alaryc Bermel, Trey Banks, Erika Franke, Kaidan Thompson, and baby girl Bermel; sisters Helen Jaros of Sioux City, Sharon Keller of California, Diane (Pete) Kamstra of Orange City, Paulette (Jerry) Lewis of Le Mars, and Betty (Mark) Saltsgiver of Le Mars; brothers Bill of Merrill, Manual (Nancy) of Struble, Alvin (Sandy) of Struble, Darrell (Cathy) of Le Mars, and Le Roy (Betty) of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill, March 30, 1990; and a grandson, Heath Bermel.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Leonard Waller of the Church of the Nazarene, officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation was after 2 p.m. Sunday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home, with the family present from 6-8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m. There was also one hour of visitation Monday prior to the funeral service.
