VARGASON, HALE, EUSTACE

Mrs. 'Hattie Vargason, 77, well known former Akron resident, died January 2, at the home of her son, J. L. Eustace, in Luverne, Iowa, after a brief illness.

Hattie Belle Hale was born September 10, ,1865, at Burlington, Wisconsin. She came west in the late 70's with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Hale, who located on a homestead west of Akron, in Union county, S.D., then Dakota Territory, where the family resided for a number of years, later moving to Akron.

In 1888 she married J. S. Eustace at Richland, S. D. Two children were born to this union, J. L. Eustace of Luverne, Iowa, and' another son who died in infancy. In 1893 she was united in marriage with Charles P Vargason in Pipestone, Minnesota. Two sons were born to this second marriage, Harold Wayne Vargason, and one son dying in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Vargason lived in Akron many years, engaging in the restaurant business, and Mr. Vargason served as town marshal and constable over a long period of years.

Mrs. Vargason was always an energetic, industrious woman, devoting herself instintingly to her family. She was a good and helpful neighbor.

Besides her two sons, J. L. Eustace and Harlan Wayne Vargason, she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. F. P. Baker, west of Akron, and Mrs. Fred Williams of Hudson, S. D.,
and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:30 p. m. in the Lutheran Church at Luverne, Iowa, Rev. L. "Wittenburg, the pastor, officiating. The body was taken to Akron that
afternoon and Rev. Wittenburg had charge of the burial service in Riverside Cemetery.
