Rose Marie Klein, 50 of Le Mars, died Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, from complications of injuries received in a fall.

Rose was born, June 1, 1959, the daughter of Oscar and Marie (Freking) Klein. She lived with her parents on a farm northeast of Ashton until 1963, when the family moved to a farm southeast of Alton. Rose attended St. Mary's Elementary School at Alton, and graduated from Spalding Catholic High School in Granville in 1977. She then attended the College of St. Mary's in Omaha, Neb., graduating in 1981 with a degree in elementary education.

She taught math and science at St. Joseph's School in Neola from 1981 to 1994. She taught math and science at Holy Family School in Des Moines from 1994 to 2006. Since 2006 she has been the eighth grade science teacher at Le Mars Community Middle School. She also gave piano lessons.

Rose was a pianist/organist for St. Patrick's Church in Neola, and also at Visitation Catholic Church in Des Moines. She also served on the Liturgy Committee at both parishes.

Rose was a dedicated educator with an interest in and concern for all her students. She loved all types of science and nature.

She never missed family celebrations and gatherings. She was an avid reader, knitted and crocheted many beautiful afghans and other articles.

She enjoyed playing the piano, loved to play board games with siblings and nieces and nephews. She enjoyed camping with her cousins.

Survivors include her parents, Oscar and Marie Klein of Alton; five brothers, Mark and his wife Jolene Klein of Wakefield, Neb., Mike Klein of Denver, N.C., Steve Klein of Frisco, Texas, Dan and his wife Wendy Klein of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kevin Klein of New York City, N.Y.; nieces and nephews, Eric and his wife Danielle and their son Carter, Aaron, Stephanie, Ryan, Ben, Joshua, Marcus and Rebecca Klein.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia Ann Klein; her maternal grandparents, Clem and Edna (Healy) Freking; and her paternal grandparents, William and Clara (Hoffmann) Klein.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with the Rev. Paul Eisele and the Rev. Doug Klein officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Wednesday. There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton. Services have been entrusted to the Fisch Funeral Home & Monument of Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Eric, Aaron, Ryan and Joshua Klein, Joyce Vortherms and Jolene Schorg.

Honorary bearers will be Stephanie, Marcus, Rebecca and Ben Klein.
