David W. Albert, 80, of Le Mars, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, following an auto accident in Jacksboro, Texas.

David William Albert was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Le Mars, the son of William and Mabel (Aldrich) Albert. He attended elementary through high school in his hometown. After graduation he attended Iowa State University. Then in 1951, Dave enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country. He was honorably discharged in 1955, having attained the rank of Staff Sergeant.

While serving at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, he met and married Sharon Anderson and they celebrated their unconditional love for 56 years. Dave was then stationed in Amarillo, Texas, and upon completing his military service, they returned to Iowa to begin his farming career on the Pech farm north of Le Mars. In the early 1960s, they settled on the Albert homestead farm where they raised three children, Susan, Phillip, and Scott.

Their livelihood was recognized as "Century Farm" in 1985. They continued this career until retiring in 1995.

All throughout Dave's years of farming, he served in many capacities for his community and church. He served on the Plymouth REC board in the capacity of secretary of the board from 1986-1993. He was also a director on the NIPCO board from 1985-1993 and received a special honor from that board in 1994.

He served on numerous committees and the board of the First United Methodist Church of Le Mars.

In 2007, Dave and Sharon relocated from the farm to a new home in Le Mars.

Dave and Sharon were devoted to each other for 56 years. They loved the role of parent to their children and to their grandchildren. They worked together and separately in support of the community. Both Dave and Sharon were amazing friends and a source of strength to many who entered their lives. They will be missed, but the legacy they leave will continue on in the lives of all who knew and loved them.

Dave will be lovingly remembered by his children Susan Albert, New York, N.Y., Philip Albert of Sioux City, and Scott Albert of Le Mars; grandchildren, Brittany Albert of Orange City, and Katie Noteboom Albert of Orange City; a sister, Ruth Stone of Boone; and two nephews, Mark Stone of Boone and Paul Stone of Kansas City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 6 at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. The Rev. Jason Larson will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars with graveside military honors provided by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. to greet family and friends. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
