Mrs. Cagley Was One of First Residents at Quorn and Kingsley
Mrs. Mary Ellen Cagley, a pioneer of Kingsley, died at her home there December 30, following a four months illness. She and her husband settled at Quorn in 1879 and when the new town of Kingsley was built Mrs. Cagley moved there.
Mary Ellen Ritts was born in Elkton, Indiana, February 14, 1844, and when ten years old came with her parents to Chickasaw county, Iowa. She was married to Christopher Lewis Cagley August 24, 1862, and moved to Cherokee county in 1879, and the next year located at Quorn, this county. To their union were born six sons: C. J. Cagley, of Delmar, N. D., F. L. Cagley, of Platte, S. D., Clarence Cagley, of Gurley, Neb.; Lewis Cagley, of Norris, S. D. Walter and Frank Cagley, of Kingsley; and two daughters, Clara Ritts, of Newport, Neb., and Mrs. Frank Ireland who died in Tampa, Florida, July 2, 1895. Mr. Cagley died while they were living in Quorn. She also leaves thirty-seven grandchildren and forty-four great grandchildren.
The funeral services were conducted at Kingsley Sunday.
