Michael Alan Stoos, 40, of Gaithersburg, Md., formerly of Remsen and Akron, died suddenly Sunday, March 14, 2010, as a result of a car accident in Maryland.

Michael was born Jan. 31, 1970, at Le Mars, the son of Dean Stoos and Kathy Delzeit. He was raised and educated in Akron. He graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 1988. He then attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D., graduating with honors in 1993 with a bachelor's degree in engineering.

On May 23, 1992, he married Karen Simon at Hoven, S.D. In 1994, the couple moved to Gaithersburg, Md., where Mike was currently the Chief Technology Officer and the Director of Infrastructure for The Food And Drug Administration in Washington, D.C.

Mike was a world traveler including Switzerland, Germany and Japan. He also loved to play poker, going fishing, volleyball, drinking wine and playing his guitar with his friend Martin HakimDin.

Survivors include his wife Karen, of Gaithersburg, Md.; his father, Dean Stoos, of Dakota City, Neb.; his mother, Kathy Delzeit, of Plainsville, Kan.; his maternal grandparents, Robert J. and Dorothy Konz, of Le Mars; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Henry and Margaret Stoos; his aunt, Janet Konz; his uncle, Richard Konz, and his step-father, Don Delzeit.

There was a visitation for Mike Thursday, from 7-9 p.m. at Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda, Md. The funeral service was at 10 a.m. today (Friday), at the Pumphrey Funeral Home.

There will also be a funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen. The Rev. William McCarthy and the Rev. Tim Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery in Oyens. Visitation will be anytime after 4 p.m. Monday, March 22, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home & Monument in Remsen.

Casketbearers will be Andrea Gotto, Dan Nacke, Cassie Oetken, Krista Peters, Brian, Chris and Jeff Stoos.
