Final Services Held Saturday For Mrs. Schiefen

Funeral services for Mrs. Hattie Schiefen, 86, of Le Mars, former longtime Hawarden resident who died Wednesday at a Le Mars hospital after an illness of eight weeks, were held at 9:30 Saturday morning at St. Joseph's Catholic church in Le Mars with burial here.

Rev. Fr. Albert Grindler, Rev. Fr. March Walsh and Rev. Fr. William Carel officiated with interment aft St. Mary's cemetery at Hawarden. Casket bearers were six grandsons, Clarence Vogelzang, Charles Borchers, Leo Stoll, William Schiefen, Lowell Schiefen and Donald Majeres.

The rosary had been recited the afternoon and evening before at the Wiltgen-Luken Funeral home at Le Mars.

Hattie Pollock was born October 23, 1879, in Germany. She went to Pipestone, Minn., at the age of 18 and later resided near Hawarden.

She married William Schiefen at Le Mars on June 17, 1903, and they farmed in Sioux county northeast of Hawarden. He died in 1926. Later she moved to Merrill where she resided with two sons, Herman and Theodore.

In 1950 she purchased a home in Hawarden and lived here six years until moving to Le Mars about ten years ago.

Survivors include five sons, Francis, Theodore and Herman, all of Le Mars, Leo of Alcester and Leonard of Hawarden; four daughters, Mrs. Ann Vogelzang of Hawarden, Mrs. Arthur Majeres of Sioux City, Mrs. Lawrence Muth and Mrs. Edward Borchers, both of Akron; a sister. Mrs. Tillie Peters of Merrill; 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren. Those coming from a distance for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Borchers from eastern Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Stoll of Hospers. Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Rieper of
Cleghorn and Mrs. Marlin Muller of St. Cloud, Minn. A large number of relatives from Hawarden also attended.
