Former Member of City Council Dies At Age 73
Louis Wegner, 73, who for 12 years was a member of the Hawarden city council, died at the hospital here Saturday (February 4, 1967), after a long illness.
Funeral services were held at the Associated church Monday afternoon, Rev. Herbert Young officiating. Mrs. Hal Shoemaker was organist and Mrs. Ralph Gregg, Jr., sang two hymns.
Casket bearers were Creighton Wegner, Winston Wegner, Erlyn Cain, Paul Beemer, Kearney Hemmingson and Robert Miller.
Two Oakes post of the American Legion had charge of graveside services at Grace Hill cemetery.
Mr. Wegner was born August 14, 1893, at Gladbrook, Iowa. A veteran of World War I, he married Ida Treiber on February 18, 1920, in Sioux City. They moved to the Hawarden vicinity that year to farm. He retired and moved to town in 1944.
Mr. Wegner was a member of the Associated church, the American Legion, and the Last Man’s club.
Survivors include the widow; four sisters, Mrs. Theodore Henningsen of Grundy Center, Iowa, Mrs. Wesley Miller of Rock Valley, Mrs. Will Groth of Traer, Iowa, and Miss Irene Wegner of Hawarden, and two brothers, Walter of Gladbrook and William of Hudson.
