IRETON, Iowa -- Charleen Gayle (Maston) Hoogland, 71, of Ireton died Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, with the Rev. Todd Bunge officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Ireton. Visitation will begin noon Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.

Charleen Gayle Hoogland was born Oct. 19, 1932, in Lincoln, Ill., the daughter of Frederick H. and Edna (Bergsma) Maston. She was baptized April 12, 1941, at Rock Island, Ill., where she attended grade school. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1950.

Charleen married Ralph T. "Bud" Hoogland on June 11, 1950, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden, Iowa. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on April 8, 1951. The couple made their home in Ireton, and their marriage was blessed with three children. Ralph died on May 31, 1997.

Charleen was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she especially enjoyed teaching the children and had also established the church library.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Carla and Randal Roghair of Creston, Iowa; two sons and their wives, the Rev. Kevin and Sandra of Merrill, Wis., and Kent and Marva of Ireton; seven grandchildren, Elizabeth and Benjamin Roghair, Jonathon, Aaron, Byron, Barry and Blake Hoogland; a great-granddaughter, Brenna Rae, daughter of Elizabeth. She is also survived by a sister, Karen and her husband, George Mullins, of Cedar Falls, Iowa; and two brothers, Ronald and his wife, Sandra Maston, of Orlando, Fla. and Richard Maston of Kansas City, Mo.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Elaine De Vries; and a grandson, Jason Hoogland.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton.
