Betty J. Bunt, 86, of Palestine, Texas, formerly of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at her home in Palestine, Texas.

Betty Jane Bunt was born March 29, 1923, in Winterset S.D., the daughter of Donald Vern and Lillian Mae (Tooker) Gee. Betty was a longtime resident of Le Mars who was best known as the baker and cook at Truck Haven Cafe for many of years. She retired in the mid 1980s and remained in Le Mars until early 2000s. Since that time to present, she had moved to Omaha, Neb., with her daughter Donna for a few years. They then moved to Palestine, Texas, to be closer to Thomas and family where she entered into rest very peacefully at home Feb. 24.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her son, Thomas A. Bunt, and his wife Carmen and daughter Donna M. Sanders and husband Mike, all of Palestine, Texas; 10 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leslie T. Bunt; son Leslie W. Bunt; grandson, Robert Allen Conner; parents, Donald Vern and Lillian Mae (Tooker) Gee; a sister, Mary Beth Huseby; and a brother, Robert Gee.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The Rev. Jan Christensen of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ will officiate. Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars.
