AGED PIONEER IS CALLED BY DEATH
John Aird Funeral Held In City This Afternoon
—Well Known
John Aird, well known pioneer of this city and county, passed away at his home at 308 Third Avenue S. E., Friday, at the advanced age of 82 years, 5 months and 20 days. Apoplexy was the cause of his death.
The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 p. m., from the Presbyterian church, Rev. J.J. DePree officiating. Burial was made in the Le Mars cemetery, Beelys funeral directors in charge.
Mr, Aird was born in Athol, Ontario, Canada, on October 14, 1847, and settled near Le Mars in 1877. He was united in marriage to Mary Cameron on October 16, 1873, where they lived at Escanaba, Mich., before coming to this community . His wife preceded him in death.
On their arrival in this community they settled on a farm five miles east of Le Mars, where they endured all the hardships of pioneer life. After spending 38 years, on this farm, they moved to town, buying a home on Third avenue S. E., which has since been his residence.
Besides his children he also leaves a sister, Mrs. Margaret Marjerrison of Ottawa , a brother William Aird of Victoria, B. C. Mr. Aird was a member of the First Presbyterian church.
Deceased leaves to mourn his loss, 13 grandchildren and the following children; Mrs. Charles Houston, Plainview, Neb.; John Aird, Center, Neb.; William Aird, Floyd, Iowa; Walter C. Aird and Mary E. Aird of this city.
Mr. Aird was very prominent in local politics in the early days and his many friends who admired his acquaintance , join with the relatives in mourning his passing.
