Jurgen J. Harms, 81, of Ireton died Wednesday, November 2, 1988 in a rest home in Hudson, SD.
Services were 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 7, 1988 in St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton.
Casket bearers were: Don Van Wyhe, Lloyd Eilts, Earl Brandt, John Vander Feen, Russell Marshall and Jerold Van Donge.
Jurgen Harms, the son of Siebelt and Etta C. Lubben Harms, was born February 26, 1907 at Grant Township, Plymouth County. He was baptized March 24, 1907 and confirmed March 20, 1921 at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township, rural Le Mars. He was united in marriage to Katherine M. Beitelspacher on February 26, 1929 at Grant Township. After their marriage, he farmed in Grant Township before moving to a farm south of Ireton. He retired from farming in 1970 but continued to work on various farms in the Ireton area. He was a member of the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine; four sons, Clarence J. and Pat Harms, of Belevuew, WA, Arthur H. and Darlen Harms of Estelline, SD, Ernest C. and lona Harms of Billings, MT and Alvin F. Harms of Ireton; one daughter, Marion and Ode Jarrett of Rochelle, IL; one brother Fred and Emma Harms of Le Mars; eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister. Marie Asmussen; one brother Harm and one grandson, Dean Harms.
