Marcella Schlesser, 84, of Struble, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Village of Le Mars.

The former Marcella Marie Rotering was born Feb. 3, 1926, at Arcadia, Wis., the daughter of Albin and Margaret (Schlesser) Rotering. Marcella attended school at Eagle Valley and Arcadia, Wis. She married Milo Schlesser at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Arcadia Nov. 15, 1948. The couple farmed their entire married lives in the Maurice and Struble area.

Marcella and Milo were former members of St. Mary's Parish in Maurice and later St. Joseph's Parish in Struble. They moved into Le Mars in 2002.

Her husband Milo died Jan. 6, 2005.

Marcella was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Altar-Rosary Society in Struble and was active in a variety of church activities.

She was known for her cake making, Christmas cookie decorating and quilting.

Survivors include two sons and their wives: Thomas and Rose Schlesser of Struble, and David and Lynn Schlesser of Maurice; a daughter, Julia Schlesser of Madison, S.D.; five grandchildren and a great-grandson: Nicholas Schlesser of International Falls, Minn., and his girlfriend Chris Ehlers of Cedar Rapids, Ben Schlesser and his wife Kris of Bettendorf, Christopher Schlesser of Ames, Robert Costello and his wife Bree and their son Max of Sioux City, and Conner Renshaw of Maurice; two brothers and their wives: Bernard and Dorothy Rotering of Arcadia, Wis., and Robert and Gladys Rotering of Alma, Wis.; four sisters-in-law: Frances Rotering of Arcadia, Wis., Sheila Rotering and Frank Heimer of Buffalo City, Wis., Mary Anderson and her husband Earl of New Richmond, Wis., and Mary VanderMolen and her husband Lloyd of Struble; a brother-in-law Walter George of Chester, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milo; a daughter, Joyce Marie in 1969; three brothers: Roman, Alvin and David Rotering; two sisters: Ruth Ruhland and Lucille George; and three sisters-in-law: Sharon Rotering, Regina Raynor and Kay Mertes; and four brothers-in-law: Ed and Jack Schlesser, Ken Raynor and John "Clem" Mertes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Struble, with the Rev. Dan Greving officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be at St. Joseph's Church in Struble any time after 3 p.m. Thursday, where there will be a rosary by the Altar-Rosary Society at 4 p.m. and a vigil wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday morning at the church for one hour before the funeral.

The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
