Ruth E. Popken; 72, of Le Mars, lA, died Saturday, March 7, 1992, at Matney Colonial Manor in South Sioux City, NE.
Services were held Tuesday, March 10, at St. John's American Lutheran Church in Le Mars, lA, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery at Craig, IA.
Mrs. Popken was born March 4, 1920, in Ireton, the daughter of Will and Hannah (Nienaber) Boisen. She married Ernest John Popken February 19, 1939 in Ireton. The couple retired from farming in 1970 and moved into Le Mars. Mr. Popken died October 3, 1987. She was a cook at Floyd Valley Hospital and Senior Center in Le Mars.
Mrs. Popken was a member of St. John's American Lutheran Church in Le Mars. While a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Craig, she taught Sunday School, and was active in ladies' groups.
She was a Plymouth County 4-H leader of "Grant Clever Clovers" for fifteen years.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn Nelson and her husband, Donald, of Newcastle, NE; Elaine Fader and her husband, Harold of South Sioux City, NE, and Donna Klaassen and her husband, Richard of Omaha, NE; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother Glenn Boisen of Pipestone, MN, and three sisters, Helen Abbey, Neva Kircher, and Bernice Eilts, all of Hawarden, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents: an infant granddaughter, two brothers, Harvey Boisen and Orin Boisen; and a sister, Lois Miniets.
