EDMUND VALENTINE
Edmund Burton Valentine, 83, LeMars, died Friday (Sept. 20, 1985) at Floyd Valley Hospital after a 10-month illness. He had been hospitalized four days.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars. Rev. Gordon Rhodes and Rev. Mark Smeltzer will officiate and burial will be in Center Township Cemetery, rural Castana.
He was born Sept. 17, 1902, at Baden, Ill., to Simon and Alice Zobrist Valentine. He was a farmer and a banker and lived at Castana, Sioux City, and Boyden before moving to LeMars in 1975. He married Louise Perrin June 9, 1936, in Monona County.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Gideons International, a veteran of World War II member of the American Legion, Friends of the Library, SIMPCO, Senior Citizens Task Force, and was active in the Plymouth County Historical Museum and many other community affairs.
Survivors are his wife, Louise, and a daughter, Mary Evelyn Valentine, both of LeMars, and a sister, Eva Cassidy of Okeechobee, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
A memorial in his name will be established for Gideons International.
