BLAIR, Neb. -- Kai Kastrup, 83, of Blair, Nebraska, died Monday, June 20, 2005, at the Crowell Memorial Home in Blair.

Kai Kastrup was born Sept. 29, 1921, in Fyn, Denmark, the son of Edmund and Karene (Andersen) Kastrup. He came to the United States as a six-month-old infant. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Laurel, Nebraska.

On Nov. 2, 1943, he married Mabel Most in Papillion, Nebraska. They moved to Blair in 1944. He farmed and later did construction work before becoming a salesman of Ford Motor products.

He was a member of the original group who started the Blair Youth Sports Complex. He was involved in fund raising, serving as president of the Little League, and as president of the Trustees. He was chosen Volunteer of the Year for his fund raising efforts to the Little League and later raised money for the Legion teams, as long as his health permitted. For years he volunteered for the Hospital Auxiliary's Rummage Sale, earning a co-share of the Chamber's Volunteer of the Year award.

He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Blair, the Danish Brotherhood and the Eagles Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mabel; a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Donald Clark of Logan; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Linda Kastrup of Blair; eight grandchildren, Andrea Clark, Michael Clark, Joel Clark, Candace Daughterty, Bandi Rodenburg, Denise Bland, Bryce Kastrup and Kurtis McManigal; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Thorkild Kastrup, of Ruskin, Nebraska Borge Kastrup and Carol Kastrup, both of Laurel Nebraska, Leo and Bonne Del Kastrup of Elk Point, South Dakota, and Robert and Julie Kastrup of Hartington, Nebraska; sisters, Ruth and Robert Kenaley of Le Mars and Elsie Nielsen of Blair.

He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved son, Kim; a sister, Ruth Kastrup; and a brother, Carlo Kastrup.

Funeral services were held June 23 at First Lutheran Church in Blair. Arrangements were under the direction of the Campbell-Aman Funeral Home in Blair.
