Brunsville, Iowa - Herman Harms, 89, of Brunsville died Sunday(August 18, 1985) in a nursing home in Le Mars after a one-year illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brunsville. The Rev. Alfred Walck and the Rev. Jack Hebard will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. today in the Maurer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Mr. Harms was born October 17, 1895, in Grant township, rural Le Mars. He married Lillian Grau April 11, 1917, at Le Mars. He farmed for 17 years and was a grain dealer in Brunsville for 30 years until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife: three daughters, Mrs. Philip (Mildred) Groetken of Le Mars, Mrs. Wilmer (Wilma) Lehnhoff of Arnolds Park and Mrs. Francis (Genevieve) Schultz of Brunsville; on son, Willis of Sioux City; one sister, Mrs. Katherine Dickman of Brunsville; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

BRUNSVILLE BUSINESSMAN DEAD AT 89

Herman John Harms, 89, retired longtime Brunsville grain dealer, died Sunday (Aug. 18, 1985) at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center after a year’s illness. He had been at Brentwood three weeks.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Brunsville with Rev. Robert Walck and Rev. Jack Hebard officiating. Burial will be in the Brunsville Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born Oct. 17, 1895, in Grant Township to Ihnke and Helena Siebels Harms. He married Lillian M. Gau April 11, 1917, in LeMars. They farmed for 17 years and he was a Brunsville grain dealer 30 years.

Mr. Harms was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and Brother hood and served for 50 years as a director of the First State Bank of Brunsville and Farmers State Bank at Merrill, retiring last April.

Survivors are his wife, Lillian, of Brunsville; three daughters, Mrs. Philip (Mildred) Groetken of LeMars, Mrs. Wilmer (Wilma) Lehnhoff of Arnolds Park, and Mrs. Francis (Genevieve) Schultz of Brunsville; a son, Willis H. Harms of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a sister, Katherine Dickman of Brunsville. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin daughters, two infant sons, four brothers, three sisters, and four grandchildren.
