Scott Schoenrock, 47, of Sheldon, and formerly of Le Mars, died suddenly Tuesday, Jan. 5, 2010, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Scott James Schoenrock was born July 18, 1962, at Sioux City, the son of James and Marilyn (Calkin) Schoenrock. Scott was baptized at Faith Lutheran Church in Sioux City, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton. As a young boy, Scott grew up in Sioux City. In 1973, the Schoenrock's moved to a farm in Stanton Township, rural Le Mars. In 1976, the family moved to Seney, near Le Mars. Scott graduated from Le Mars Community High School in 1980.

Scott was united in marriage to Shelli Rens and to this union two children were born: Jessica and Justin. He was later united in marriage to Heather Smit April 20, 2007, at the Sheldon United Methodist Church.

Scott had worked in the construction industry for a few years and then began his 26-year career as a professional truck driver. He had driven for Heyl Truck Lines, Te Slaa Trucking, and for the last three years Schuster Trucking of Le Mars. While working for Schuster's, Scott delivered merchandise from the warehouse to all of the Bomgaar's stores.

Scott enjoyed scuba diving and was a member of the Sioux County Dive Team. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his Harley, camping, hunting and golfing.

Through the years, Scott enjoyed the times when his children would ride along with him in his truck.

Scott also enjoyed restoring old John Deere tractors and helping his in-laws on their farm.

He was a member of the Sheldon United Methodist Church where he was a member of the United Methodist Men's Group. Scott had a tremendous faith in the Lord and during the last years enjoyed sharing his faith with others. As a trucker, Scott enjoyed visiting with many individuals he met on the road.

Survivors include his wife Heather of Sheldon; two children from a previous marriage: Jessica and Justin Schoenrock of Sioux Falls, S.D.; his parents, Jim and Marilyn Schoenrock of Le Mars; two brothers, Jeff Schoenrock of San Antonio, Texas and Wade Schoenrock and his wife Angela of Hinton, and their children, Marrisa, Mitchell, and Cody; a sister, Lisa Doty and her husband John of Denver, Colo.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ron and Adri Smit of Hospers; in-laws, Robyn and Jay Carnes of Denver, Colo., Scott and Lisa Smit of Sioux Falls S.D., and their children Caleb and Madeline, and Jeremy and Amber Smit of Cedar Falls; aunts and uncle, Lowell and Dora Chellew of Sioux City, and Barbara Park of Salt Lake City, Utah, and many friends.

Scott was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Lloyd and Lottie Calkin and his paternal grandparents, Earl and Lois Schoenrock.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sheldon United Methodist Church, Sheldon, with the Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Inurnment will be in the East Lawn Cemetery, Sheldon, at a later date. Visitation will be after 5 p.m. today (Friday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. Friday followed by a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue Saturday morning at the church from 10 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Schoenrock, Mitchell Schoenrock, Wade Schoenrock, Jay Carnes, Scott Smit, Jeremy Smit, Denny Kruger, and Mark Chellew. Honorary casket bearers will be Todd Meendering and John Doty.
