John Gerhard Eilers, brother of Fred Eilers, residing three miles south of town died at the latter’s house on Monday morning (February 13, 1905) at 2 o’clock at the age of 51 years, 10 months and 3 days. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Fred Eilers, Rev. Hugo Grimm, of St. Paul’s Lutheran church, conducting the service and preaching the sermon. The decreased was born in Oldenburg, Germany. In 1871 he moved to Illinois, living in Macoupin county until 1881, when he moved to Arkansas. Two weeks ago they came from the latter state to Ireton. About three months ago Mr. Eilers was taken sick with heart trouble and this illness combined with Bright’s disease was the cause of his death. On December 14, 1876, he was married to Lina Anton of Mt. Olive, Illinois, and ten children were born to them. One daughter is married and lived in Illinois. The others are all here and intend to move onto the J. E. Byne farm five miles west of Ireton. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all who knew them. The body was interred in the Lutheran cemetery in Ireton Tuesday.
