Eldon Julius Roepke, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, following a lengthy illness.
Eldon was born May 29, 1922 in Kingsley, the son of Otto and Louise (Peters) Roepke.
He attended school at Elkhorn #7 in rural Kingsley.
He was united in marriage to Rowena Koetke Sept. 12, 1943, at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley.
He was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Kingsley. Eldon was a lifetime farmer in the Kingsley area.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rowena; daughters Gayle Wragge of Howells, Neb., and Greta (Ed) Page of Hewitt, Texas; sons Gary (Mary) Roepke of Northridge, Calif., and Gregg (Rhonda) Roepke of Kingsley; 15 grandchildren, Erik Roepke, Mark Roepke, Heidi Peter, Holly Roepke, Jonpaul Roepke, Joshua (Veronica) Roepke, Scott (Jennifer) Wragge, Aaron Wragge, Rachael Wragge, Amy Wragge, Dana Page, Maegan (Patrick) Stein, Alisha (Matthew) Knapp, Brad Roepke, Katie Jo (Chad) Utesch; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Horsch of Isle, Minn.; two nieces and three nephews; and a sister-in-law, Mary Koetke of Kingsley.
Eldon was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson Aaron Roepke; a son-in-law, Douglas Wragge, and brothers-in-law, Merlin Koetke and Raymond Horsch.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church in Kingsley with burial at the Kingsley Cemetery. A prayer service will be held at the church at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Arrangements were made under the direction of Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for donations of their choice.
