Esther H. Lubben, 92, of Le Mars, died Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Esther Henrietta Lubben was born on June 13, 1917, in Hawarden, the daughter of Marria (Prull) and Henry Lubben.

In her early adulthood years during World War II, Esther was employed as a riveter at Boeing Aircraft in Tacoma, Wash. She returned to Le Mars, and many in the area will recall her as a retail sales clerk at JCPenney. She was a loyal employee to the company for more than 40 years, retiring in 1979.

Esther was a devoted member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She was deeply involved in numerous church, civic and community organizations and on countless committees. Esther and her two sisters were passionate in their weekly ministries of visiting the area nursing home residents.

Dining out, watching special television programs and attending family reunions also added much joy to Esther's life.

Esther was a proud grandmother of two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and loved hearing about their busy lives.

Esther is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Wewers of Kansas City, Mo.; her sister, Irene Jerman of Le Mars; her two grandchildren, Jason Wewers of Kansas City, Mo., and Cara (Pete) Kensinger of Los Alamitos, Calif.; her two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Kaleb Kensinger; one nephew; three nieces; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Preceding Esther in death are her parents, Henry and Marria Lubben; one sister, Ella Kuehn, and two brothers, Harold and Bernard Lubben,

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars.

Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Tuesday), at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The visitation will continue at the church on Wednesday, one hour prior to Esther's service.

Esther's family wish to express their special thanks to the staff at the Floyd Valley Hospital and the Pastors of the St. John's Lutheran Church for the wonderful care extended to Esther in the past months and years.
