Marie Hughes, 84, Merrill, died Saturday (May 7, 1988) in Sioux City hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in Merrill. Burial was in Hillside cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson funeral home of Le Mars.

Mrs. Hughes, the former Marie Carstensen, was born September 20, 1903 in Plymouth county. She married Milo Hughes February 4, 1930 at Merrill.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Albert Kleihauer of Cherokee and Ms. Ronald (Dorothy) Bock of Le Mars; a brother, Clarence Carstensen of Le Mars; two sisters, Mrs. Wes (Mabel) Hamilton, and Mrs. Albert (Lucille) Husman, both of Merrill; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
