Final Rites Held for Mrs. Edmunds, Pioneer Resident

Funeral services for Mrs. Christine Eva Edmunds, 97, pioneer resident who died Saturday at the Hawarden hospital following a brief illness, were held at the Barnard Funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday. Dr. G. S. Bruland officiated with burial at Grace Hill cemetery.

Caskets bearers were Milo Edmunds, Dale Edmunds, William M. Edmunds, Marlo Green, Edmund Burton and Lavere Edmunds. Mrs. Ralph Gregg Jr., was the soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Hal Shoemaker at the organ.

Mrs. Edmunds was born August 16, 1865 in Guelph, Ontario, Canada. There she married William Edmunds on December 31, 1884.

In 1888 they settled in the Hawarden area on the farm south of town now occupied by the Allan VanderFeens, were they resided a short time before purchasing the farm just east of the golf course on which she lived 70 years until her death.

She was a 50 year member of the Christian Science church of Boston, Mass., and a past worthy matron of Loyal chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. A charter member and founder of the Progressive club in Hawarden, she served as its president 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband October 12, 1825 (should be 1925), and a son Roy, in December of 1957.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Essie Burton of Hawarden and Mrs. Florence Pharr of Roseville, Calif., a son, Milton of Hawarden; 11 grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
