July 18, 1944FORMER TEACHER IN AKRON SCHOOL DIES IN ALASKA
Akron Register-Tribune: Many people of Akron will remember Verne J. Boulton, who was an instructor in high school here a number of years ago, and they will regret to hear that Mr. Boulton passed away on May 21, 1944, after a few hours illness, due to a heart attack. Mr. Boulton was a resident of Columbus City, Iowa, where he was born November 26, 1893. He was a graduate of Columbus City high school and the University of Iowa, where he majored in education and mathematics. Following his graduation, he taught school for several years, serving as instructor and principal.
During the first World War he served with the 90th Division in the American Expeditionary Forces, and at the battle of Mihiel he sustained an arm wound and later served in the Army of occupation in Germany.
Since the beginning of the present war, Mr. Boulton has been employed by engineering companies in the construction of defense plants in Iowa and Indiana. Since October of last year, he has been with the United States Department of Engineering in Alaska, and recently obtained a permanent rating as professional engineer with the civil service.
Surviving Mr. Boulton are his wife, Esther of Columbus City; five sons and four daughters; his mother; three brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Boulton died in Anchorage, Alaska. Services were held at the post chapel with an Army Chaplain officiating. He was buried in a military cemetery at the foot of snow-capped Chugach Mountain, near Fort Richardson, Alaska.
