Mrs. Carlson Rites Announced
Rigby, November 23 - Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the St. John's Lutheran church for Mrs. Amelia Carlson, 76,. a resident of Grant for the past 43 years, Mrs. Carlson died at her home Wednesday, (November 21, 1956) following a lingering illness.
Mrs. Carlson was born September 11, 1880, in the Farmersburg, Iowa, the first of 11 children born to Henry F and Elizabeth Clinge Becker. She lived with her parents until she attended Mrs. Carlson public and Lutheran schools where she learned to read and write English and German.
In 1910 she moved to Idaho Falls where she worked as a housekeeper for her brother, Henry Becker. On March 26, 1913, she was united in marriage to Erick Bernard Carlson of Grant. They were married by the Lutheran pastor, J. W. Nyvall.
Mrs. Carlson's main interest was missionary work for the Lutheran Church. She was an active member in the conversion phase of church work. Her membership in St. John's Lutheran church dated back to 1913.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died April 8, 1953; her parents, a sister and four brothers.
Survivors include sons and daughters, Leonard H. Carlson and Reynold B. Carlson, Grant; Mrs. H. W. Bluhm, Short Hills. N.J.; Mrs. M.A. Pfotenhauer, San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. A. F. C. Pfotenhauer, Alma, Mo; eight grandchildren and brothers and sisters, Mrs. J. H. Brangwin and Miss Lillian Becker, LeMars, Mrs. M.M. Harrison, Storm Lake, Iowa; Alwin Becker, LeMars and Miss Norma Becker, Des Moines, Iowa.
Friends may call at the Buck Funeral Home until Monday at 11 a.m. and at the church at 7th Street and Emerson Ave., from noon till time of services. Pastor Waldo H. Rist will officiate. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Park under the direction of the Buck Funeral Home.The family has designated a memorial for the Lutheran Hour radio program, and missions of the church. Friends desiring to participate may contact Mrs. William Lawson or Mrs. Waldo H. Rist.
