Mrs. Emma Butler Macon County Pioneer Expires Tuesday

Aged Woman Survived by Ten Great Grandchildren

Mrs. Emma L. Butler, widow of G. B. Butler and who was one of the oldest native residents of Macon county died Tuesday evening (May 14, 1929) at her home. She was eighty-tree years old. She had been in failing heath for several years, suffering from complications incident to old age.

Mrs. Butler was born, east of Decatur (Nov 20, 1845) in what has for many years been known as The Pines. When a girl she attended the old Mt. Zion academy. She and G.B. Butler of Kentucky were married November 29, 1866. They moved to Kentucky and resided there for eighteen years, but the remainder of her life was spent in Macon county.

On their return from Kentucky the couple settled on a farm near Forsyth, where they resided until 1907, then moving into Forsyth. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Nov. 29, 1916. Among the 160 guests were three who had attended their wedding fifty years before.

Six Children

Mr. and Mrs. Butler were the parents of six children two of whom died in infancy, Mr. Butler died October 26, 1918.

Mrs. Butler was a member of the Methodist church in Forsyth. She was well known among the old residents of the county. She was a patient and cheerful during her long illness. When the home in which she was confined to her bed caught fire last fall, she was said to have been the calmest person there. The fire was finally subdued with the assistance of Decatur firemen.

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. F. H. Majors of Decatur, Mrs. F. W. Stewart of Douglas, Kansas. Mrs. Elwood McKinley of Bakersfield, Cal. and Carl B. Butler of Forsyth. There are ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. the body was taken to Dawson and Wikoff funeral director and prepared for burial

Mrs. Emma Butler of Forsyth buried

Forsyth, May 23, 1929- Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Butler were held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. H. F. Powell of Pana. Burial was in the Boiling Springs cemetery.

Mrs. Elwood McKinley of Bakersfield, Calif and Mrs. Alva Stewart of Kansas were called here by the death of their mother , Mrs. Emma Butler.
