Florence Anna List, 89, of Granville, died Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Florence was born Sept. 16, 1920, at rural Remsen, the daughter of Peter and Katherine (Thiel) Christoffel. She was raised in the Remsen area. She attended both rural and St. Mary Catholic School at Remsen. Florence then did domestic work in the area.
On Sept. 24, 1940 she married Melvin List at Remsen. They made their home on the family farm near Granville, which they operated until retiring on the farm in 1981. It became a century farm in 1983. Melvin died July 17, 2002.
Florence was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and church guild, Past member of The Catholic Daughters of America.
Survivors include three sons: James List and his wife Mary Ann of Le Mars, Joseph List and his wife Tami of Granville, John List of Sheldon; 11 daughters: Dorothy Porter and her husband Ed, Barbara Kreber and her husband Ken all of Sioux City, Julie Phillips and her husband Bob of Merrill, Annette Pottebaum and her husband Marvin of Remsen, Donna Mai and her husband James of Le Mars, Mary Hohn and her husband Roland of Wahoo, Neb., Trudi List and her husband J.D. Clemens of Somerset West, South Africa, Cindy Klein and her husband Mark of Granville, Pauline Jonas and her husband Pat of Palm Bay, Fla., Audrey Doolittle and her husband Bill of Wichita, Kan., Brenda Bodensteiner and her husband Kevin of Fairbank; 53 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Esther Reuter of Saulk Center, Minn., Helen Brady of Marcus, Mildred Ruden and her husband Eldon of Le Mars; one brother-in-law, Ray List and his wife Charmaine of Granville.
Preceded by: her parents; one granddaughter, Gina Eddleman; two sisters, Phyllis Colling and her husband Norbert, Mary Kemp and her husband Al; four brothers, Henry Christoffel and his wife Sonia, Raymond Christoffel and his wife Alva, James Christoffel and his wife Bernadine, William Christoffel and his wife Lucille; one sister-in-law, Edith Delperdang and her husband Gerald; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence Brady and Melvin Reuter.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville with the Rev. Richard Ball officiating. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Granville. Friends may call anytime after 4 p.m. today (Monday). There will be a parish rosary at 5 p.m., and vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Granville. Fisch Funeral Home & Monument is in charge of arrangements.
Casketbearers will be John List, Christopher Klein, Travis Schulte, Kevin Kreber, Nicklas List, Steve Pottebaum.
