Mrs. Anna Rodenbour, Pioneer Woman, Died Last Week
Funeral services were held Monday, April 5, for Mrs. Anna Rodenbour at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Struble. Father Kelm, assisted by Father Thoennissen of Hospers, Father Karhoff of Oyens and Father Kocher of Neptune celebrated a high mass and the choir from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton assisted in the service.
Mrs. Rodenbour passed away at Sacred Heart Hospital Thursday, April 1, after an illness of three weeks.
Anna Petges, the daughter of Michael and Margaret Petges, was born in Tunntinger, Luxembourg, February 9, 1863, and came to this country when 20 years old and moved to this community in 1885.
On December 9, 1886, she was married to John Rodenbour by Father Meis in St. Joseph’s Catholic church in LeMars and they settled on a farm near Struble 50 years ago. Mr. Rodenbour passed away in 1939 but Mrs. Rodenbour continued to live upon the farm until her recent illness.
She is survived by three sons and three daughters. They are: Nick of Struble; John of Remsen; Mrs. Frank (Susan) Plendl of LeMars; Mrs. Anton (Theresa) Wittkop of LeMars; Mrs. Joseph (Amelia) Plendl of Alton; and Leo, of Maurice. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren.
Burial was in St. Joseph cemetery at Struble and the following were pallbearers: John Schlesser, Roman LaVelle, Ed Buckley, Wm. McDonald, Frank Hentges and Henry Groetken.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were nieces, Miss Rose Hengesch, Chicago; Mrs. Nick Molitor, LaGrange, Ill.; and three nephews: Frank Petges, Lemont, Ill.; Fred Petges, Lockport, Ill.. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rodenbour of Fort Dodge, and Henry Schmitz and Mrs. Leo Fitzgibbons of Sioux City.
