Marian A. Kinney, 89, of Alton, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Marian was born Aug. 15, 1920, the daughter of Mathew and Anna (Mousel) Konz. She was raised and educated in the Alton area. On Oct. 3, 1939, she married Robert Kinney at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton. The couple farmed near Alton until 1947 when they moved near Sheldon and farmed until 1957 when they moved back to farm near Alton. Robert died Oct. 23, 1979. Marian maintained the farm for two more years then retired on the farm. She entered the Happy Siesta Health Care Center on Sept. 15, 2008.
Marian was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church of Alton, St. Mary Rosary Society and St. Mary Honorary Guild.
Survivors include three sons, Robert Kinney Jr. and his wife Sherry of Alton, Mike Kinney and his wife Jeannette of Le Mars and Jerry Kinney of Alton; two daughters, Kay Von Arb and her husband Orville, Donna Miranda and her husband Ernesto, all of Alton; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild; two step-great-great-grandchildren; Two sisters, Verena Pottebaum of Alton, Rose Wolf of Sioux City; one sister-in-law, Ester Konz of Alton; and one brother-in-law, Ivo Kinney and his wife Mary of Bella Vista, AR.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Darlene Kobes and her husband Ed; four brothers, Magnus Konz and his wife Honey, Leonard Konz, Lester Konz and LeRoy Konz; one sister, Loretta Klein and her husband Martin; three brothers-in-law, Joe Kinney and his wife Mildred, James Kinney and his wife Mae, and Bernard Kinney; four sisters-in-law, Magdalen Cheboski and her husband Ray, Alberta Niehus and her husband Eve, Viola Hansen and her husband Albert and Josephine Kinney.
Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m., today (Monday) at St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton with the Rev. Paul Eisele and the Rev. James Tigges officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Alton. Visitation was after 4 p.m. Sunday. There was a parish rosary at 5 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Alton.
Casketbearers were John, Larry Jim and Chris Von Arb, Matt Miranda, Travis and Zac Kinney. Honorary Bearers were Patti Von Arb-Wiedman, Cathy Van Es, Stephanie Kobes, Ashley Kinney-Bortscheller, Abbey, Amanda and Megan Kinney, Jessica and Whitney Miranda.
