Betty J. Bruns, 80, of West St. Paul, Minn., and a Craig area native, died Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, in St. Paul.

Betty was born Nov. 22, 1928, on her parents' farm near the small town of Craig, to Leland and Anna Fett, both 18 years of age. Betty Joyce was their only child.

Betty graduated from Le Mars, Iowa high school and attended nurses training in Sioux City where she graduated as an RN in 1949. Betty worked as an RN in Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota for a total of 44 years.

She and her husband, William H. Bruns, were married for 50 years. He died in 1999.
Betty is survived by her four children, Mary (Max) Gronenthal of Cave Creek, Ariz., William (Lori) Bruns of Redlands, Calif., Nancy (Scott) Knowlton of Mendota Heights, Minn., and Phil Bruns of Dayton, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Eva, Nick and Jesse Gronenthal, Janna Bruns and Dana and Cally Knowlton.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at West Funeral Home, 1051 South Robert Street at Arion in West St. Paul, MiInn., with a gathering one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

Memorials can be given to Our Lady of Good Counsel, 2076 St. Anthony Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104. Thank you to all the caregivers at this amazing hospice. Also thank you to all of Betty's friends at Realife Coop in West St. Paul.
