LE MARS, Iowa -- William "Bill" Braun, 69, of Le Mars passed away Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at his residence.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ (858 Seventh Avenue SE) in Le Mars, with the Rev. Drew Tomberlin officiating. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
William Ray "Bill" Braun was born Dec. 18, 1935, in Le Mars, to Clarence and Myrtle (Schindel) Braun. He attended country school and graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1954. As a young man, he was a member of FFA and 4-H. As an adult, he was a charter member of the L and O Investment Club.
He was united in marriage to Liz Henrich in June 1957. She passed away Dec. 23, 1979. He later married Barbara Weber on Sept. 5, 1981.
He and his father owned the Skelly Station in Le Mars from 1957 to 1965. He then worked as a mechanic for several Chevrolet dealerships including, Hesse, Groetwold, Chuck Wood, Dick Morris and retired in 1998 from Lynn Nuebel Chevrolet in Le Mars. During his retirement years, he enjoyed driving cars for Larry's Automotive in Merrill, Iowa.
He loved Chevys especially his little red S-10 pick-up. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and following the success of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. He was an avid Minnesota Vikings and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed going deer hunting and tending to his vegetable garden, He also treasured his time with his family and friends and his trusty companion, his dog, Missy. He was a member of Presbyterian United Church of Christ, the Le Mars Eagles Club, and a social member of the American Legion Wasmer Post 241 of Le Mars.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Barbara of Le Mars; a daughter and her husband, Michele Wiersma and Shane Hill of Florida; his mother, Myrtle Braun of Le Mars; a sister, Betty Hesse of Le Mars; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Weber of Le Mars; a brother in heart, Tony Brouillette and his wife, Della of Le Mars; his ever faithful dog, Missy; a brother-in-law and his wife, Denny and Ellen Weber of Council Bluffs, Iowa; a niece and her husband, Sharon and Tim Russell and their children, Stephen, Trevor and Blake of Sergeant Bluff; and nephews, Alan Hesse of Massachusetts, Jeff and Jason Weber of Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Braun; his wife, Liz in 1979; a brother-in-law, Marv Hesse; and his father-in-law, Walter Weber.
Pallbearers will be Steve Schnepf, Doug Engel, Larry Molzen, Tim Molzen, Bob Gengler and Ken Rhodes.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland.
