Roman P. Tentinger

Roman P. Tentinger, 91, of Remsen, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Roman P. Tentinger was born July 1, 1914, at rural Remsen, the son of William and Kathryn (Ludwig) Tentinger.

Roman was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Catherine's Catholic School in Oyens and later at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He then assisted his father in farming.

On Nov. 22, 1945 he married Lucille Henke at Visitation Catholic Church at Maryhill. They operated a dairy farm near Remsen and in 1950 bought their first Ayrshire milk cow. Over the years they increased that herd which is still being expanded on the family dairy farm by his son Jim. He was also an Archer oil dealer for over 75 years. In 1982 they retired and moved into Remsen.

Lucille died March 25, 1996. Roman had been a resident of Park Place Estates in Le Mars since April 1, 2002.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Remsen, Catholic Order of Foresters, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Garrigan Assembly.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Carol and Dave Carey of Cherokee, Jo Ann and Joe Block of Le Mars, Anita and Jiggs Jorgensen of Spencer, and Donna and Tim Kelley of Remsen; two sons and their wives, Bill and Joan of Le Mars and Jim and Sharon of Remsen; 22 Grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six Sisters, Helen Ritz of Sioux City, Rita Henke of Circle Pines, Minn., Doris Ruhland of Le Mars, Lois Toups of Bartlesville, Okla., Phyllis and her husband, James Boever of Davenport, Paula and her husband, Gilbert Schroeder of Remsen; one sister-in-law, Bernice Henke of Cherokee; one brother-in-law, Floyd Reinert of Cherokee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Lucille Faye Kelley; one great-grandson, Skyler Carey; one brother, Erwin, and one sister, Mercedes Augustine.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Remsen.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m. by the Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus followed by a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus honorguard and chalice service, all at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Chad Carey, Jared Block, Nathan Tentinger, Travis Tentinger, Jason Warren and Matt Kelley. Knights of Columbus members and Catholic Order of Foresters members will serve as honorary bearers.
