27 Nov 2000Saverna E. "Vernie" Albers, 77, of Sioux City died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at a Sioux City nursing and rehab center following a brief illness.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Dennis W. Meinen officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Whiting, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Mrs. Albers was born Oct. 18, 1923, near Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph T. and Francis (Meyers) Langel. She grew up on the family farm. She graduated from Le Mars Public High School and attended Westmar College in Le Mars for one year. She married Clarence A. Albers on May 2, 1950, in Le Mars. He died Dec. 6, 1994, in Sioux City. They farmed near Bronson, Iowa. They moved to Sergeant Bluff in 1972. She had lived in Sioux City since 1995.
She taught school in Plymouth County. During the war, she was a secretary for the Civil Service for the U.S. Government. She then resumed teaching. She later became a nurse's aide and then a licensed practical nurse, working at Marian Health Center (now Mercy Medical Center) for 15 years.
She was of the Catholic faith. She enjoyed crocheting and reading.
Survivors include a son, Joe of Sioux City; a daughter, Kathy Bauerly and her fiance, Dallas Klemme of Akron, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Tiny and Sandy Langel of Sioux City; two sisters, Dula and her husband, Delbert Farrington of Merrill, Iowa, and Janet Staab of Minnesota; four grandchildren, Jess, Jason and Josh Bauerly, and Amber Albers; and a great-granddaughter.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; five sisters, Julliette Langel, Marie Owens, Lorraine Langel, Dorothy Langel and Lois Campbell.
