OSCAR FRISTAD
DIES AT 79LE MARS, Iowa—Oscar Elias Fristad, 79, LeMars banker, died Friday in a Sioux City hospital of heart failure.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday in St. John American Lutheran Church in LeMars. The Rev. Thomas Lee will officiate. Burial will be in the LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer Funeral Home of LeMars.
Mr. Fristad was born Jan. 8, 1900, in Davison County, S.D. He was educated at Augustana Academy at Canton, S.D., and Dakota Wesleyan University at Mitchell, S. D.
He married Pearl Schlund Aug. 7, 1929, at Mount Vernon, S.D. He was a banker and served in banks in South Dakota until 1951 when he moved to LeMars. He was executive vice-president of the First National Bank of LeMars. He was elected president in 1959 and chairman of the board in 1963 and was serving in this capacity at the time of his death.
Mr. Fristad was a member of St. John American Lutheran Church, LeMars Chamber of Commerce, Development Corporation, Library Board, LeMars Order of Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge, Sioux City Consistory and the Abu-Bekr Shrine. He was a trustee of St. Luke’s Medical Center at Sioux City, and a 43-year member of the LeMars Rotary Club. He served as governor of district 561 Rotary International from 1968 until 1969.
Survivors include the widow; one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathryn) Rasmus of Sioux City; one granddaughter; four brothers, Eddie of Cambridge, Minn., Mandus of Letcher, S.D., and Melvin and Richard, both of Mitchell; seven sisters, Mrs. Anna Podhradsky of Mitchell, Mrs. Palma Lundberg of Monticello, Minn., Mrs. Ida Seistner and Mrs. Rose Seistner, both of Woonsocket, S.D., Mrs. Selma Seistner of Letcher, S.D., Mrs. Agnes Peters of Stickney, S.D., and Mrs. Violet Moline, of Kimball, S.D.
