Beverly Held, 72, of Hinton, died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2005, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Beverly Joyce Held was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Le Mars, the daughter of George and Clara (Popken) Oetken. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brunsville. She attended country school in Plymouth County, and later attended and graduated from Le Mars Central High School. She worked for Le Mars Savings Bank in Le Mars.

On Oct. 11, 1953, she was united in marriage to Thomas E. Held at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brunsville. The couple lived on a farm east of Hinton for many years. Together, they were the parents of four children: Rebecca, Renee, Kimberly and Scott. During their years on the farm, Beverly worked for Hopkins Drug Store and Tots & Teens in Le Mars. In November 1998, the couple became residents at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars. Thomas died April 4, 1999, in Le Mars.

Beverly was a longtime member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church and the Hinton Civic Club. She was also a member of the Book Review Club, a former Girl Scout leader, a member of the Hinton School PTA and a Garden club member. She loved her flowers and her trees that she planted through the years. She also enjoyed doing family genealogy. But most of all, she enjoyed the times spent with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her four children, Rebecca Shay and her husband, Merle, of Le Mars, Renee Loutsch and her husband, Micheal of Hinton, Kimberly Olson and her husband, Mike, of Burbank, S.D., and Scott Held and his wife, Teresa of Hinton; a brother, Warren Oetken and his wife, Sheryl, of Merrill; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Kruse and her husband, Wendell, of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Stephanie and Kyle Shay, Alex and Andrew Olson, and Justin and Jamie Held; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a brother, Alwayne.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Brunsville, with the Rev. Dan Gerrietts officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday), with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.
