Glennes M. Deiterman, 83, of Merrill, died Monday, July 27, 2009 at her home.

Glennes Marian Harms was born April 21, 1926, at her grandparents home at Akron, the daughter of John and Alma (Witt) Harms. She attended country school in Grant Township, rural Le Mars. As a young woman, Glennes worked at Aalf's Manufacturing in Le Mars.

Glennes and Gerald Deiterman were united in marriage July 10, 1952, in the Assumption Catholic Church at Merrill. The couple had farmed near Struble and later near West Le Mars before settling in Johnson Township in 1962. They have farmed and raised cattle for many years. Twelve years ago, Glennes suffered a stroke and has been cared for at home by Gerald.

Glennes had been a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Johnson Township for several years. She and Gerald enjoyed going to dances in earlier years. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, playing cards, and listening to music.

Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Gerald of Merrill; three sons, Robert Deiterman of Brunsville, Steve Deiterman of rural Merrill, and Kenneth Deiterman of Sioux City; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a bother, Doug Harms and his wife Rose of Cheyenne, Wyo.; a sister, Shirley Brandt of Sioux City; a sister-in-law, Polly Harms of Struble; two brothers-in-law, Don Deiterman of Le Mars and Leo and Lorraine Deiterman of Merrill; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Alma (Witt) Harms; a son, Gerald Deiterman Jr.; two brothers, Marlin Harms and her twin brother Glen; and a grandson, Kenneth Dieterman.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Peter Boe of St. Paul Lutheran Church, rural Merrill, officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Thursday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitations will continue Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
