Robert Beely Mauer, 77, lifelong LeMars resident died at his home on Sunday, March 4, 1990.

Services were held Thursday, March 8, 1990, at First United Methodist Church. Burial took place at LeMars Memorial Cemetery under the direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Mr. Mauer was born in LeMars to Lloyd Edwin and Martha Delia (Kloosterziel-Beely) Mauer on Aug. 16, 1912. He was raised and educated in LeMars. He attended Westmar College and Cincinnati Embalming College. He was married to Ethel Lillian McIntosh on Sept. 5, 1936, in Rockford, Ill. He was owner-operator of Mauer Funeral Home & Furniture Store before his retirement in 1983.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a 50-year licensed-Iowa Funeral Director, long time Chamber of Commerce member (and the first volunteer secretary of the Chamber), Masonic Lodge-Giblem Lodge #322, Scottish Rite Consistory, Lion’s, Elks, and LeMars Citizen of the Year-1972. He was a charter member of the Plymouth County Fair Board, charter member of the LeMars Development Corporation (LDC) and member of the original Board of LeMars Packing Plant. He was a volunteer for LeMars Abbey Auxiliary, Meals-on-Wheels and Plymouth County hospice.

Survivors are four daughters and nine grandchildren, Janet Mauer of Minneapolis, MN, Karen J. and Jerry Blakley and Michael and Peter of Rancho Santa Fe, CA, Nancy J. and Vernon Stackhouse and Travis, Natalie and Drew of Cambridge, IL, and Linda K. and Larry Voiles and Matthew, Kimberly, Martin and Julie of Belvidere, IL; six sisters: Eloise Meadows of American Falls, ID, Jane Mauer of LeMars, Helen Saienga of LeMars, Dorothy Tammes of LeMars, Ruth Schultz of Sioux City, IA, and Carol Strope of Boise, ID; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Ethel, and an infant daughter.
