Warren E. Baker, 78, of Hawarden, and formerly of the Craig area, died Saturday, April 22, 2006, at his home in Hawarden.
Warren Everett Baker was born March 21, 1928 in Wolf Creek Township, near Moville, the son of Kenneth and Clara (Struckbien) Baker. He attended country school near his family's farm. Following his education they moved south of Remsen, where Warren assisted his family with farming.
On Aug. 4, 1951, Warren and Marvis Rexroat were united in marriage in Sioux City. The couple moved to the Craig area where they farmed for many years. Warren also served with the Iowa Army National Guard based in Le Mars. Marvis died July 8, 1990. Warren later moved to Hawarden for his retirement years.
Warren was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. He enjoyed camping and fishing as well as bowling and traveling. Winters were spent in Mexico, Florida, Texas and Arizona. He spent his summers in the Iowa Great Lakes area. Warren was also an avid follower of auctions and farm sales.
Survivors include his daughter, Joan Hayes and her husband Grant of Warner Robins, Ga., a son, Steven Baker of Hawarden, a son, Dan Baker and his wife, Debbie of Ireton, and a daughter, Kristy Dullard and her husband Dan of Waterloo; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Meizner and her husband Bob, Bobby and Andy Hayes, Eric Baker and his wife Sarah, Sam and Dale Baker, Blake and Matthew Dullard; five great-grandchildren, Jacob and Noah Meizner, Trinity Hayes, Ethan and Reagan Baker; a special friend, Anne Bonestroo of Hull; two sisters, Blanche Majeres of Le Mars and Viola Gengler and her husband, Joe of Remsen; a brother, Victor Baker and his wife, Mae of Kingsley; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marvis; son, David; a daughter-in-law, Deborah; a sister, Bonnie Miesner; and two brothers, Clarence and Roscoe.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. The Rev. Marvin Mueller will officiate. A time of lunch and fellowship will follow the service prior to burial at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral.
