KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Hedwig C. Waterman, 99, of Kingsley died Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Congregational United Church of Christ in Kingsley, with the Rev. Robert Blair officiating. Graveside services will be 4 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 9 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at Rohde-Earnest Funeral Home in Kingsley. Visitation will resume noon until service time Friday at the church.

Hedwig was born July 2, 1903, in Ivoryton, Conn., the daughter of John and Ida Nelson. She moved with her parents in 1917, to Akron, Iowa.

She married Eber Waterman in 1924. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Akron area until 1939, at which time they purchased a farm in the Kingsley area. They continued farming until 1987, when they purchased a home in Kingsley. Eber died April 28, 1990. She continued to live at home until January 2002, when she entered the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was a member of Congregational United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship, Kingsley Garden Club for over 40 years, Our Neighborhood Birthday Club and the Senior Citizens Center. She enjoyed bowling.

Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Hoxie of Kingsley; two grandsons, Clyde "Cliff" Switzer and Gary Switzer and his wife, Stella, all of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Monica Scism of Branson, Mo.; four great-grandchildren, Stephanie Ann Switzer, Toni Bennett, Heather Pettiford and her husband, Herb, and Stacey Sullivan; and five great-great-grandchildren, Jacob Switzer, Kanique, Kimmani and Herbert Jr. and Heaven Ligh Pettiford.

She was also preceded in death by her parents.
