LE MARS, Iowa -- Marvin Vande Hoef, 59, of Le Mars died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Klaus Raab officiating. Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Marvin John Vande Hoef was born Dec. 23, 1942, in Sioux Center, to John and Grace (Westerbeek) Vande Hoef. He graduated from Sioux Center Community High School in 1961. During his school years, he began learning carpentry and construction skills. Following his school, he worked as a carpenter, building homes.

He was united in marriage to Sharon Marienau on June 14, 1963. He worked for Gene Plueger Construction for several years. In 1981, the family moved to Oklahoma and later to Georgia, where he continued working as a carpenter until returning to Le Mars in 1988. In 1991, he began working for Well's Dairy at the North Ice Cream Plant. He continued to work for Well's until his health caused early retirement.

He loved to play pool and enjoyed playing in the Eagles Club Tournament. He enjoyed yard work and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon of Le Mars; two sons and their wives, Michael and Suzanne Vande Hoef and Robert and Angel Vande Hoef, all of Le Mars; five grandchildren, Holly, Tasha, Casey, Amy and Cody; a great-granddaughter, Alexa; five brothers and sisters, Janice and Henry Bochove of Inwood, Iowa, Bill Vande Hoef of Alton, Iowa, Harlan and Rochelle Vande Hoef of Sioux Center, Debra and Roger Van Bruggen of Hospers, Iowa, and Beverly and Allen Hooyer of Sioux Center; his stepmother, Alie Vande Hoef of Rock Valley, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Sheila Rae Vande Hoef in infancy; and two infant brothers.

Pallbearers will be Brad Van Bochove, Matt Vande Hoef, Danny Van Bruggen, Rodney Toben, Scott Reiter and Steve Reiter. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Holly, Tasha and Casey Vande Hoef, Amy Riccio, Cody Smith and Alexa Riccio.
