Barbara Jean Harms Stough McNutt, 63 of Brandon, S.D., died suddenly Sunday July 12, 2009.
Barbara Harms, daughter of Harvey and Mildred (Winchester) Harms, was born July 5, 1946, in Le Mars. She grew up there, received her education, and was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville. She remained in Brunsville and later moved to Sioux City, where she was married and began to raise a family. Barbara remained at home to be a homemaker until moving to Lubbock, Texas. She then drove truck until moving to Brandon, S.D., where she worked at the Post Office.
Barbara was united in marriage with Charles McNutt July 15, 1995, in Oklahoma. Barbara continued working at various odd jobs and spent time gardening at home. Charles died May 26, 1999.
Barbara loved to be with her family. She cherished time spent with her grandchildren and loved having family gatherings. She was an uplifting and caring woman that could talk to just about anyone.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, John Stough, Brandon, S.D., Earl Stough, Brandon, S.D., Russell Stough and his wife Tera, Brandon, S.D., Regina Ellison and her husband Mike, Tea, S.D.; sisters Janet Paulson and her husband Larry, Freemont, Neb., Karen Harms, Clayton, N.C.; nine grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Charles; her parents; her step mother Avis Harms; and her stepson Les McNutt.
Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Wednesday with the family present from 5 to 7 pm at Miller Funeral Home, 13th & Main in Sioux Falls, S.D. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Brandon Valley Assembly of God Church with burial at the St Peter Cemetery in Brunsville.
