Eileen L. Haralson, 86, of Merrill, died Friday, July 3, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.

Eileen Lauretta Kelley was born Oct. 28, 1922, at Sioux City, the daughter of Joseph and Ina (Sheets) Kelley. Eileen was raised in Sioux City and attended and graduated from East High School in 1940. Following high school, Eileen received her teaching certificate and taught country school for a short time. She later attended and graduated from Sioux City Barber College.

In June 1942, Eileen was united in marriage to Jack Haralson at Sioux City. Eileen spent the next several years as a barber in the Sioux City area along with her husband Jack. In 1959, Eileen and Jack moved to a farm East of Merrill. Eileen and Jack farmed for several years until retiring.

They later moved to Arkansas to live for several years. Jack died while living in Arkansas in August 1982. Eileen moved back to the farm in 1996 until making her home at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars in August 2008.

Eileen and Jack enjoyed camping in their fifth-wheel and going on trips to visit family and friends. They enjoyed wintering in Arizona for several years. She also enjoyed her garden and raising flowers.

Survivors include two sons, Jack Haralson and his wife Bonnie of Merrill and Joe Haralson and his wife Julie of Ft. Collins, Colo.; a daughter, Sandra Trometer of Merrill; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Katherine Bolles and her husband Rueben; and several nieces and nephews.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 1982; her parents, Joseph and Ina (Sheets) Kelley; and a brother, Joseph Kelley.

Abiding by her wishes, Eileen has been cremated and there will be no visitations or services.
