DEATH TAKES PETER REESE

Following the illness of two weeks Peter Reese, a pioneer settler of Plymouth county, died Saturday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. H. Smith, 2115 Cypress street, Sioux City. He was 73 years old.

Peter Reese came to Plymouth county when a youth in the early seventies and taking up land, through hard work, and judicious management, amassed a comfortable fortune.

Peter Reese was born in Kiel, Germany, May 24, 1853, and grew up in his native place. When a youth of 19 years he emigrated to America to seek his fortune and shortly after his arrival located at Keystone, Iowa, where he remained for a year and then came to Plymouth county and after working at various jobs acquired some land in Washington township which he, in the years following, developed into a fine farm with good buildings and bought more land. He was a successful farmer and cattle raiser, and a careful speculator, his ventures being crowned with success.

He was united in marriage in 1886 with Mathilda Pecks, daughter of a pioneer in that section of the country. To their union seven children were born, who are: Henry Reese, of Neligh, Neb.; Mrs. Gert Siebens, of Le Mars; Mrs. Albert Ritterbush, of Chambers, Neb; Mrs. Ben Eilts, of Le Mars; Mrs. Ed Smith, of Sioux City; Mrs. John Ritterbush, of Chambers, Neb.; and John Reese, of Le Mars. He also leaves four brothers who are: Julius Reese, of Le Mars; Fred Reese, of Woodstock, Minn., Herman Reese and Fred Reese residing in Germany.

Mrs. Reese passed away in 1906. Of late years Mr. Reese had made his home in Sioux City. He travelled extensively in the past years and made trips on four different occasions to his boyhood home in Germany.

The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church and an attendant of the church while living in Washington township and Le Mars.

The body was brought here yesterday morning from Sioux City and the funeral held in the afternoon at St. John's Lutheran church, the pastor Rev. J. J. Vollmar officiating.
